My advice is give yourself lots of praise and cheering on.
This can be a weird, frustrating, scary condition and we need lots of humor, forgiveness and support to navigate.
But its also sometimes a fun, silly, creative way to live and if you can learn to love yourself(s) and how creative you are, it can be a pretty cool way to be.
This is the first time that I have tried to reach out to a group. My psychologist has encouraged me to do more research regarding my DID. I was officially diagnosed over a year ago but had hidden my condition from others for decades. I have been hesitant to do any in depth research regarding DID, which is unusual for me because research is my forte.
A little history about myself. I was severely abused starting at around age 6. This is when my first known split occurred. In addition to my childhood traumas I was involved in an abusive marriage, was stalked and was almost killed. However, through all of this I excelled at school and work. I married my 2nd husband who is great and have lovely children. I still had a lot of work to do in the psychiatric department and was being treated but things kept getting worse. The "forgetfulness" was extreme. I was having fugues. I had previously thought I mostly had co-conscious states but now I was wondering if people were lying to me about things because I had no recollection of them happening. Every new stressor in life made it worse. My psychiatrist tried me on so many different combos for my bipolar. Finally in a therapy session with my psychologist she asked me the right question and I broke down. I had been hiding my alters for so long, I was so afraid of being committed to a hospital from the time I was very young.
Now we're working towards learning about this issue. My psychologist and I are not working towards integration but rather working towards a way that "The Committee" can work together for the good.
