Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. At least two of these personalities are considered to routinely take control of the individual's behavior, and there is also some associated memory loss,...

neither is it a personality disorder...DID gets confused as a personality disorder because, as adults, often are protector parts are still doing their job and this looks to the outside world as "abnormal" or "mal-adaptive" behavior...
so the challenge for many with DID is finding new roles for those fierce protector parts, so that we can function and get along with other human beings in healthier ways. protectors want to push others away, even those who may actually add to our wellness...connection with others is an important part of the human experience for most people...of course, their are always exceptions like the reclusive artist who is only connected to their art craft, etc.
I don't always think about the possibility that some of the donut head things I do might actually be a particular person trying to sabotage friendships, etc. You've given me quite a lot to ponder today!!
i agree with John 12am. I remember the first friend I ever had that I suspect is Multiple. Trying to make sense of our imploded friendship was what brought me to this group originally. She had at least one part that I came to think of as being in charge of her Personal Life Fuck Strategies. At the time I thought of this one as somewhat malicious, because I didn't know any better. But now I think of her as john12as might - as a protector whose internal logic makes perfect sense in the context of past traumas, but who might behave differently if they could be shown that they are needed in a slightly different protector capacity these days?
