Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. At least two of these personalities are considered to routinely take control of the individual's behavior, and there is also some associated memory loss,...

If you do not think that sexual offenders can sense that a person is vulnerable I want to share a few experiences with you. Looking back on my past with hindsite and the knowledge I have aquired about the psychology of abuse victims and abusers I now see that predators can sense when they have a potential victim around them.Just like we read the cues of everyone around us and switch they read cues to find their victims.
One of my more memorable experiences was when I was working my vending route. My husband and I had just placed a snack machine at a local juvenile detension center. They have inmates from a local prison that go and work at this detention center. As I was stocking up this machine these inmates were gathering around asking questions. At one point I was completely surrounded by them.At that exact moment my husband walked in the door and they all scattered like roaches.Looking back on it my husband and I said I was lucky because they easily could have grabbed me and forced me into a nearby bathroom and hurt me.
Another experience was when we were working our vending route again. We have a coke and snack machine at one of our local National Guard. As my husband and I stocked up these two machines off in another room was another inmate that the National Guard was using to clean up and cut grass. This inmate stood there in a trance staring at me and my daughter the entire time we were stocking up our machines.Completely creepy and weird.
Recently I was cutting my grass and my neighbor a kind old man was talking to one of his friends.I think this friend of his lives across the street. The whole time this man and my neighbor talked he trailed me cutting my grass. It was actually rude because he wasn't even facing my neighbor as they spoke. He was in a trance watching me.I got so tired of his learing that I stopped cutting my grass for a while and walked inside and told my husband.
I now know what to look for when I am out in public. I am profoundly happy that I have my hypervigilance to aid in detecting these predators. Use those tools given you to keep yourselves safe my friends.

Wistala I think your alter that is reading people that way is correct. We face an epidemic of abuse.Everyone I know has been abused. I recently posed a question to everyone here who all do they know that has been abused and pretty much everyone agreed that the majority if not all of the people they know have been abused as well.Unfortunately abuse has become the norm and the unabused a rarity. Your alter Acceptance sounds like she suffers from learned helplessness.I also have ones that suffer from the same. That happens when people try to fight and are overcome by their abusers. It is a breaking of ones will but it is not terminal. You can reverse it as I am sure you know by teaching her that she does have a right to say no.

I'm definitely hypervigilant. It's made me great with reading body language. I don't know if this is related or not, but to some degree I feel like I already know most people before I meet them. When I get to know them, my initial observations are confirmed. I tell myself that people aren't that simple; I can't tell who a person is from across the street based on clothing, mannerisms, gait, vehicle, products they might have on them, or speech, but I'm never surprised. My people watching has ruined my view of the world.

What you are saying is right on topic Steph. You are reading people. I know the feeling well of it ruining your view of the world but would you choose denial or knowing what you now know? I would much rather know what I now know.It keeps me safe and gives me an edge up on abusers .Before I knew and was in denial the abusers had the advantage and would manipulate me into situations to assault me.Now I can see them coming even the friendly offenders from a mile away.

sounds like it is good that you have your husband around.

I definately was lucky at that time Stephanie. All of those incidences except for that last one was before I knew I have MPD. I actually was assaulted by a man at that National Guard while my husband and child were waiting outside in our van. I went in to stock a machine and this man lured me to one of the back rooms saying he had a present for my daughter and forced himself on me.He stopped before he was able to assault me completely because I think he was afraid that my husband was going to walk in on him so I got away. I dissociated this entire incident and walked out of the place not even remembering one single thing about it. A year later after I discovered I have MPD I walked back into that National Guard and the memories started to pour in of this man harassing me and attempting to rape me. Even with my husband there I was nearly assaulted and didn't even remember it to be able to protect myself until a year later. That truly is the double-edged sword of MPD/DID.
