Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. At least two of these personalities are considered to routinely take control of the individual's behavior, and there is also some associated memory loss,...

nah, Mycks described the situation well. I'm sure I've known people with DID in the past but not known they were Multiple, and responded as if they were all the same person. The situation I described above only happens because I've been privileged enough to have some Multiples allow me to know some of their Alters
most of my friendships have started here and continued elsewhere online. There have been times I've been very uncomfortable when abusive Alters have taken me to task. But once I realised that they were being protective and learned not to take it personally - no matter how good they were at making it personal :) - I was no longer uncomfortable around them. In fact I became very fond of them. Some of them have revealed themselves to others both online and in real life, but i think generally not
so, a long response to your Q. I hope I've made some sense?
I can think of two concerns. First, most of us have our impressions of Multiples formed pretty much by Hollywood, and they have a vested interest in sensationalising things. I think this negativity can be avoided if you have a good and established relationship with the person before telling them about you? And second, a kind of generalised cause for caution about revealing yourselves? DID by definition involves intense dissociative states. There are many people and organizations that might seek to exploit that, learn to trigger it in you - and rarely if ever for your wellbeing. A few wonderful people sharing your lives might be much better than lots of people?
sorry I can't really be much help to you in this. Perhaps other members that have faced this dilemma might be of more help?
Kevin yoiu are right, sometimes some of the alters can be butts, and I have often felt frustrated at myself for being too much to handle with some people. But it does seem some sort of test, and a way to see if the person is willing to stay around after a bit of a challenge then a bit of a bond occurs, I think.
My snarky bits have become much more snuggly and responsive to people as they start to feel more and more safe with a person
Just, like K said, be careful about who you tell....use judgment. But hopefully people will be opoen and understanding and loving to you
