What you describe sounds a bit like somthing I have called compartmentalisation I have in the past been able to sort of lock away the worst thoughts and memories by listening to somthing wirh a certain rythm (music is what that usually is) and visualize walking down a white hallway opening a door walking down another hallway and repeating this till I'm ready to lock up the memory (usually somthing that is causing significant cognitive dissonance) then I open a final door to a totally dark room with a box in it then put the thought into the box and shut it then I exit the room and walk back down the hallways shutting the doors behind me till the thought is so far away it's not there any more .I concentrate on the hallways and shutting doors till its far away and I'm feeling safe from it. It doest always work and when it does somtimes it's only temporary but it helps . Hope this helps.
