Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. At least two of these personalities are considered to routinely take control of the individual's behavior, and there is also some associated memory loss,...
Some of the signs of DID (not necessarily meaning you for sure have it, but just indicators - you'd need to be diagnosed by a dr):
Finding things you don't remember purchasing in your home - clothes, books, etc.
Finding different handwriting in your journal, etc.
Friends telling you about events they shared with you that you do not remember.
Finding things misplaced, furniture rearranged, etc. that you don't remember moving (and a room-mate didn't move things).
Finding foods in your kitchen that you don't like and don't remember purchasing.
Losing time. Most people will "lose" a few minutes or they can be so absorbed in their work that they're surprised time has passed so quickly. For multiples, they may find themselves in a different place or doing something they don't remember starting and learn that significant periods of time have passed.
Friends may tell you that you sounded/acted differently but you have no memory of it.
Finding charges on your credit card, checks you don't remember writing, cash gone.
Friends feeling confused because you have different tastes/preferences at different times. For example, one day you may say you adore steak and the next time you dine with friends you tell them you're vegan. Or saying you love bowling and when they suggest it later on, saying you hate bowling. Facts may vary from alter to alter as well. One may say that you had a very close relationship with your sister and you love her very much while another alter may say she your sister is a total jerk.
If this is causing concern for you, you might want to schedule an appointment to speak with your doctor. Multiplicity can be the result of abuse but it can also occur from seeing a serious accident at a tender age, going through a traumatic surgery or illness or a multitude of other traumas. Allow whatever needs to surface to come when it's ready instead of trying to figure it out.
My alters started coming out of the woodwork of my brain and saying hi when I was 39...
Remember, they saved you, and they all started out as a help.
