Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. Please take your time in determining whether or not to integrate. First off, it is not only your decision, but a decision to be made by everyone inside. There is much to do before you all are ready for the process to either intergrate or cooperation with co-consciousness. My suggestion is to work hard in therapy and begin to learn about all those inside and everyone's past. This is harder than it sounds as it is trauma that causes DID. It can be very emotionally exhausting so I hope you have a good therapist and support system.
As you go through therapy, you will learn about your others when they each feel safe enough to show themselves which is not a quick process as people need to feel safe first. Also it can be very difficult for you to accept, so it tends to be a slow process as you allow the information to seep in.
Stephanie made some great suggestions to read and also journal as well as utilize meditation. During the beginning process a journal can be very effective in encouraging communication and learning who the others are and what their needs are. As you re-read journal entries you may find yourself very surprised at what shows up. Those of us that are DID are very hypnotizable so meditation can be a valuable tool in calming down and staying sane during the difficult process of healing.
There are some pretty good people here so I hope you feel safe.
I wish you well in your healing journey.
