I started having trouble last November, fatigue and what I thought was gall bladder pain, but in reality, rib pain. I have an excellant family physician that pursued lots of blood work and tests. In early December we thought it was MGUS, I had a skeletal xray that did not show anything abnormal, but she referred me to an oncologist who ordered more blood test and the biopsy. Biopsy came back positive for MM and four weeks after my first xray I had a repeat skeletal ray and they found lesions in both my femurs. I was referred for a second opinion and started on Revlimid/Dex and Zometa. My second opionion came from an MM specialist at the University of Iowa. She works in tandem with my local oncologist and my family physician..I have 3 awesome doctors! We are looking at doing stem cell transplant later this summer. Ask questions, read all you can and take notes and ask for copies of your test results. I find it helpful to journal every day so when I have a doctor's appointment I can look back over everything and I write down symptoms, side effects and questions. You are your best advocate! Your physician is being thorough in ordering a bone marrow biopsy.
MGUS has a one in one hundred chance of progressing to MM each year.
Other than the indignity of having your butt in the air, the sting of the lidocaine, and a brief wierd feeling as some marrow is aspirated the biopsy is a walk in the park, you even get a band aid- but it gives a real picture of what is going on inside.

I know exactly how you feel. In Nov, my Dr told me they found monoclonal proteins in my urine, and its probably nothing. But they sent me to a hematologist in Dec. They told me, you probably have MGUS, no big deal, thousands of folks have MGUS, but we want t draw another IGA test. In Jan-you have 2 of 3 high risks factors for MM. Want to do a bone marrow biopsy, if its below 10, no worries. When the big guy came in for my results I knew we were in trouble. Marrow 10-20 %, and I have smoldering Myeloma.....now its a waiting game. Have a difficult time trying to get my mind off the subject, and I hope andpray your results will be good for you

In your shoes I would be looking into turmeric / curcuminoids as a supplement that can do no harm ( but discuss with your physician and research on your own) .

And I would be getting my health and fitness a little fine tuned so that if you ever have to have treament you are in the shape to tolerate it with relative ease.
