Ok, getting a bone biopsy this week. Dr. said it will take 2 weeks for results to come back. I don't know how to feel if that is strange? I have great pain in my back, osteoporosis, and I just got over a terrible kidney infection.
Does anyone know what the criteria is for positive test for MM?
I have bone deterio...from the osteo, I have hypercalcemia...I have MGUS...what else is there?
I do not have anemia.....could I still have the MM with only some of the symptoms?

Myeloma can be symptomatic or asymptomatic.
In either case you would see 10% or greater of clonal plasma cells in the bone marrow but this is only a small piece of the story and you need to fixate upon a much larger picture.
Calcium, renal function, anemia, bone lesions/damage, paraproteins,amyloidosis,plasmocytomas and a bunch more of things that make this illness so variable from person to person.
In any case a bone marrow biopsy gets your doctor a real picture of what is happening in the marrow and takes away some guesswork.

A lower number is supposed to be either earlier in the disease or better.
I used to visualize the myeloma cells exploding and being cleaned up by the body but now I just envision changing them back to normal plasma cells and having them go back to work.
Next week I will get a marrow biopsy too.
