MRSA Support Group
Staph infections are infections caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus. They include skin infections, pneumonia, blood poisoning, toxic shock syndrome, and food poisoning. Infection can happen through contact, especially if you have open wounds. Most infections are treatable with antibiotics. If you have been infected with staph, join the group for support and advice.
I, too, know the horrible, depressing feeling of coming off the antibiotics then immediately getting a new pimple/postule/boil 2-3 weeks after the last pill was taken. It's been like clockwork since it first reared it's ugly head last november. Been on antibiotics 3 times since then, and after the last time i did an experiment and just let my body "go", not getting on the pills again.
I don't know how bad your last outbreak was and I am in no way telling you to do one thing or the other but I have been trying to really trust my body to build up antibodies on its own and it seems to be working. I've had 2-3 HUGE ones (boils, furnacles, whatever dirty, disgusting name doctors have created for them) since I was last on the antibiotics in early march and have treated each one with super hot packs as often as i can remember (I put a wet towel in the microwave for 2:20 and wrap it in a couple plastic bags and hold it on the wound as long as I can stand or until it cools off). The heat seems to really speed up the process, though frequently causes it to be MUCH more painful for a day or two until it goes away or pops and drains itself)...sorry, gross! For the little ones, i put bactroban ointment on and cover with a bandaid...Not really sure if this works or not...I have a sneaking suspicion that it just pushes the bacteria deeper into my body..but who knows!
Also, BLEACH BATHS!!!! i canNOT emphasis how helpful this has been for me. There's been research on this eliminating it on your skin...i use 1-cup of bleach per tubfull of lukewarm water...sit in it for 10 mins then rinse off really well.
Last thing that has seriously helped me a lot....Taking 200% vitamin C pills before bed and an antihistamine to help me sleep the whole night...Seriously does WONDERs for the healing process.
Again, these are all "ME"-specific....And I'm not sure I would recommend going without antibiotics if you've got a really bad outbreak that looks like it's going to cause actual deep tissue (or bone!) damage, but for me, it's like my body recovers quicker now, like the same speed that it would if i were on the antibiotics..when i do all the above-mentioned pampering-myself stuff religiously. One tiny last thing....Taking acidophilus (or any probiotic, i think) when on antibiotics helps ward of the tummy problems BIG time.
Good luck!! most annoying, scary, horrible disease ever. :(
bactroban like it is candy and also she gets nonstop boils and folliculitis. Have tried tumeric, also tea tree oil, manuka honey. the tumeric just gave her constipation and her blood thinned out. so stopped that..... will try the bleach baths....How often do you do those?
thanks , tangerinebear and yes, this crap sucks!
