Welcome and sorry to hear about your friend. I don't understand why the Dr's wont treat her. From what I have read, we all have staph. It is the strain of staph that can be resistant to our natural antibiotics, and some pharmicitical meds. She should find a Dr. that will address her problem. I have had it for about 8 months with 5 outbreaks. Some worse than others, but I am dealing with it. Read as many posts left on this site as there is a lot of good information here. Also last Sunday in the Parade insert in the newspaper there was an article about MRSA.

If it is a boil or abscess under the skin it most likely needs to get cut and drained quickly or it will get worse.

Go to as many dermatologists as you can until you are seen, or hospitals if you want to.

Although MRSA can be a major deal or a minor deal depending on the degree of the infection do not mess around, get treatment even if it takes all day to find help.

What is the name of the hospital and doctor that would not help your friend? I would like to know as I am sure others would.

I am sorry your friend has MRSA. We don't all have staph. About 30 percent of us carry normal staph on our skin and other parts of our body. Approx. 7 percent carry MRSA. It is not only spread if you have an active infection; but those people who are carrying the bacteria in their noses,etc.. can spread it by sneezing, coughing into their hands, and then not washing their hands. That's why it is so important to demand, and expect that every health care provider that touches you or your family member clean their hands and any equipment that they use on your each time.!! It's hard to get them to do that though...and this leaves me incredibly frustrated. Any MRSA needs to be treated appropriately. Those with community-acquired MRSA tend to have boils on their skin, and need to be extra vigilant about cleaning and preventing re-infection or spreading infection.
