I have MRSA. Once you get it you can become a Carrier and you can have Flares. I am a Carrier and I have Flares once a month. The MRSA sores/boils tend to come back in the same sites each time. There are only a couple of Antibiotics that affect MRSA, one is the oral one your being given which I imagine is Septra. If the Septra does not heal the infected sores/boils then you have to go into the ER for IV Vancomycin. There is also an ointment called Mupirocin that you put inside your nostrils, as that is where MRSA germs colonize and live.

Once you get MRSA its hard to get rid of it, but it's imperative to keep the area clean, drained of any puss or excretion, treated with the ointment, covered and make sure you take the Oral Antibiotics. If the sores/boils get too deep or big/red/hot or have red streaks shooting out from them or you get a fever you need to go the ER as it can be very dangerous. I know the sores/boils are very painful but when the get swollen and full of that thick mucuslike puss they need to be open and drained. The more you drain that gunk out the faster they heal. If the hole in the middle of them is big enough, open them, drain them (by squeezing all the gunk out) then pack them with Mupirocin ointment and thin strips of gauze packing. You need to do this about 3 times a day. If you just leave them alone and do nothing, they'll just get worse and spread. Always wash your hands with antibiotic soap after dealing with them, and it's best to wear gloves when dealing with them.

MRSA bacteria can live on surfaces for months, so make sure that any washrags or towels you use to clean your sores/boil sights are kept away from any other family members. I generally use old ones that I throw away, or just use gauze pads. Make sure and clean bathroom sink areas or tables or wherever you sit and treat your MRSA area with a Lysol or bleach cleaner.

I caught MRSA from a washrag that my son had left on the bathroom counter, he's a Firefighter and had caught it from a person he extracted from an auto accident. His only lasted for a couple of months. I have RA which is a immunology suppressant disease so mine doesn't go away.

If you do have to go to the ER for them, if they get to bad or you have a fever, make sure and tell them as soon as you check in that you have MRSA, so they can put you away from everyone else, it's highly contagious and can kill someone who's very sick with a weak immune system.

Hello, I am so glad I was able to find this post. I have recently caught MRSA and was teated for it, well I'm still taking antibiotics and I have a huge wound on my bikini area since thats where it came out. I am scared out of my mind for whats coming next once this wound closes. I have read that MRSA does ever leave your body and that is very concerning to me. I had never heard of this infection but it got really bad since I also had a fever and a huge infection that developed in terms 2-3 days, it was horrible they had to cut my wound twice to drain it and right now I'm still taking care of it since its not fully drained an or cures. I get nightmares that iw aunt ever get better, can any of you help me be more informed because I've been reading so many things on Google and I'm just so scared.

Kat in your response you said that your kids infection left after a few months, but how did you know he was back to normal? and how did you know that yu would continue to get outbreaks of it?

I just want my normal life back without having to worry so much about what I touching, I'm so paranoid I sanitize everything.
