Through my experience, my son only seems to call me when he wants something or there's something he needs to tell me. When I visit him, I ask him why he hasn't rung me, he simply says that no news is good news and that he doesn't have enough credit to ring me all the time. Its strange because even though we have no verbal or physical contact for weeks at a time, my gut tells me if there's something not right. That's when I start to worry.
With your son, he may just be re-adjusting to the new regime, trying not to be needy, feeling guilty and ashamed, can't afford to buy phone credit because he needs to buy toiletries etc? Send him a letter telling him that you need to speak to him at least once a week, at a certain time just to check-in. I find that writing things in a letter helps my head and is sometimes much easier than an actual telephone conversation where emotions are running high and there are time limits.

He might be in Intake where they cannot get calls. Once he is in general population, he can call but I hear the lines are bad.

Hi sweetheart- YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS. one day at a time. One spin out/ break down/ cry at a time. My son was sentenced one year ago. I can’t beleiev how the time has flown... time has the ability to be so fast- and also so slow.

The BEST single thing you can do - is FALL IN LOVE with yourself , the process and your son. He will be brave and courageous and he will find his way. YOU - have the opportunity to step into the best version of YOU- for him.

Thank you so much Amanda. My son Steven has Asperger's Syndrome and Schizo-Affective Disorder. Going off his meds caused him to have a psychotic episode which started all of this mess. He's in a minimum security prison. He hasn't called since January 4th of this year, a few weeks after he got to the actual prison. I send him a card every 1-2 weeks with no response. There's plenty of money on his books to call. His counselor says he's doing pretty good. Sometimes he gets very anxious and spends a lot of time in her office. This is all so heartbreaking as you know. I am in constant prayer for my son. I think he was gonna put in for a halfway house. I'm pretty sure he won't let me visit him there either. Thank you for responding to my post.

SOMETIMES THEY HAVE TO BE WITHOUT FOR 2 WEEKS CAUSE NEW , AFTER THAT HE CAN CALL...MY SON IN PRISON 3 YEARS , WE ARE FINDING OUT NOW HE IS APEALING ,CAUSE THE SYSTEM IS CHARGING HIM FOR THINGS AND NO REASON, HE CONTACTED COLUMBUS , ITS LIKE HE JUST WOKE UP AFTER ALL OF THIS ,
MY SON HAS ADD ,ADHD, THEY FOUND OUT AFTER IN PRISON HE HAS BPD,HE IS WORKING AND TEACHES A CHRISTIAN GROUP ABOUT GOD, HE HAS NO REGRETS OF PRISON , BUT HE SAYS ITS TAUGHT HIM ALOT.
