I too live in the Hampton roads area, so I am available to meet up to chat if you would like sometimes. I too have a son that is serving 8 years in the Federal Prison System in Butner, NC. He is my only child. It has been and still is the most devastated event of my life. I feel I failed him as a parent at times. I just wanted to reach out and let you know that you are not alone. I am right down the road from you in the same situation. I will lift you up in my prayers as I do all Mother's going thru this. I am on my third year now and I can tell you it does not get easier. The pain of the separation is unbearable at times, but God always seems to send someone along at just the right time to pull you thru it. I get thru each day, believing that God has a reason for this (I have no clue the reason) and that when my son is set free, he will be a better man and that God will reward us all for the struggles we went thru without giving up the faith.

I have a grandson whom just turned 20 he is in Prison for 25 years I can't handle this ether I cry all the time and I shut down. I looked so hard for a support group and found this one I want each of us to reach out and try to give each other comfort in each other.

Yes only mothers who have or going through this heartbreaking time can relate to us. My Son is in remand and has been in a cell of 40 people....He only gets presentenced on the 28th July. To be stuck in a darkened cold cell with no exercise is not healthy..Then he still has to be sentenced...He has been there now for 2 months. I would feel better if he was living out his sentence but we do not know if this time in prison will be taken into consideration....

I so feel for you all. My son is in Colorado prison and he calls and sometimes he is depressed and then other times he just plan mad. He said that you can't even look at someone without them saying what are you looking at. My heart breaks for him because I really think he has more of a mental health problem. When he calls my heart just aches for him I know that he has to pay for his choices but I am frightened for him safety is my biggest concern. He is in the 3 years and I just fear he will not make it. I will pray for each and everyone of you.

This is just terrible isn't it? My son has a long history of mental illness. He went off his meds and got into trouble. He also has autism so at 31 years old he is somewhat childlike. I too worry about my son. I do call his counselor though every 2 or 3 weeks to check up on him since he never calls me.
