Miscarriage Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have experienced the traumatizing event of a miscarriage or a stillbirth. Miscarriage remains one of the most common complication of pregnancy, but that doesn't make it easy to deal with. Join the group and find support in the company of others who know what you're going through.
I had been super regular prior to getting pregnant and I was regular afterwards too. You should ovulate (when your body is ready) and then AF will follow. I believe it took me about 2-3 weeks to ovulate post D&C. Then I had AF a couple weeks after that. It really didn't take long for my cycle to return.
What I noticed was that my flow was quite a bit heavier than before the pregnancy. Which for me I think was a good thing because I think part of our problem in getting pregnant was a lack of flow. I was always regular but many months, there wasn't even enough flow to fill a tampon (sorry if that's TMI).
I have talked to other women and they noticed a heavier flow also. So be prepared for that - but everyone will react differently.
And if it's any consolation - it's supposed to be easier to get pregnant after a pregnancy..... So hopefully it won't take you another 2 years to conceive #2.
But I also caution you, each AF will be SUPER hard, much harder than before. I thought I was handling our miscarriage pretty good, but after about 6 weeks, I found that the shock had worn off and I really struggled. Keep journaling, keep reaching out and getting whatever support you can. And also maybe research the 5 stages of grief - many of us find ourselves battling with alot of anger/resentment. But when you know what the stages of grief are, you can recognize with stage you are in and cut yourself some slack.
As for my experience... Previous to my mc my cycles after bc were all crazy, they'd go from 28 days to I had AF for six weeks and it wasn't until two months before my pregnancy that my cycles decided to get on track. Then after my mc I had a D&C and about two weeks after I had a very small AF that lasted about two days and the past two months they've been around 30-33 days. The flow hasn't been much different in comparison. I do agree though that when you get your AF you may get emotional about it, whether you are trying or not. When I began trying last month we thought for sure we'd get pregnant, but when my AF came (a few days late) the emotions came all rushing back. It's kind of a reliefs because of the anxiety of another pregnancy but a disappointment be because we want to begin a family...double edged sword.
Allow yourself time to heal and best wishes :)
I go back and forth between being anxious to move back into trying and being scared. I hadn't really thought about AF being harder emotionally, but it makes sense that it would be. Before it was hard because it meant yet another month that I wasn't pregnant. Now it will be a reminder that I was. I think that is what I am most scared of/dreading.
I've been doing OPK's the last few days. I'm not really wanting to actually 'try' this month, per se. I think I just need to know that my body is getting back to normal...
I had my first miscarriage in December of last year and had a D&C for it. I didn't really have period after that because I needed to have a surgery and had to go on the pill until I could have surgery. But when I had my 2nd miscarriage in June, I was told by my fertility doctor that my period should arrive in 4-6 weeks post-mc. Mine came just a day or two after the 4 week mark and I have been regular again since.
It can be hard getting your period again after the miscarriage. It is just another reminder that the baby is no longer with you. I'm going on my 4th month since my miscarriage and every month I get my period, I just feel disappointment. Not just because I'm not pregnant again, but also because it reminds me of the babies I lost.
Hang in there...it will get easier over time. Coming on here helps some....and seek counseling if you need it. I see a grief counselor and he's been a tremendous help!
