While some women have their periods in 4 weeks, I learned that it can actually take MANY weeks for some women to have their first period after a D&C. For some reason, in some of us, our HCG drops so slowly that it doesn't allow us to go back into our cycle for a while. You may have a little bit of bleeding as your HCG slowly declines, but then it stops. That can happen. It isn't a period...not till you get several days of medium/heavier bleeding.
I don't know about testing with OPK because that tests for luteinizing hormone -- the hormone released as a signal to ovulate. The thing that tipped me off was a home pregnancy test, because that measures HCG. You might want to give that a try. If it comes up positive, then you can go back to your OB and get quantitative beta levels done. That should at least put your mind at ease.
grrrr I just want it all to start already!!!
You might want to talk to the people at the clinic to see what they'd say. In my case, my HPT started testing negative when i dropped down to the upper 30s on the HCG level but I was hanging out there for a while. So just because the test comes back negative doesn't mean you're not still slightly elevated. You could be around 10-20 and that's what's keeping the period away.
I'm sending good thoughts your way!
Your body is just taking its time clearing the hormone out. I had my d&c in early February and didn't get my first REAL period until April 24 (three weeks after my HCG beta still tested at 33)! So you aren't alone, if it helps any to know that.
