If you had complete miscarriages on your own then you don't need a D&C. They can check for retained products by doing an ultrasound, but if the bleeding stopped on its own they don't always do that either.

as with all procedures, there are complications. After my D&C, my OB said that my chances of getting pregnant again and miscarrying or not again were as good as if I had never been pregnant. Good luck to you. You'll be fine. I guess it's to ensure that you won't have infection from the previous MC. I see it as a clean womb to make room for another; or at least that's what I'm praying for.

I tried to not have a D&C the 1st time but all my tissue didn't pass so I had to have one eventually anyway. The 2nd time I opted to have a D&C because I wanted to get the tissue tested to see if it was a chromosomal abnormailty and also so that I didn't end up not having all the tissue pass again. You can have a follow up ultrasound to make sure that you there is nothing left in there. But having a D&C actually incrases your risk of infection. So if you let it take its own course, you are better off. It can not hurt your chances of having children in the future if you let it just takes its course.

wait so the only way to TRUELY know everything is gone is by an ultrasound? I just had a few little chunks come out (it's almost been a month since my mc) with no blood...&& my discharge has gotten really dark in the past week...Does that mean there's still some in there?

I would call your doctor, I had a d&c and I stopped bleeding and passing tissue after 9 days. You would think healing time would be shorter if you passed it naturally on your own. Good luck to you!

As long as your bleeding stopped at a reasonable time and you never had any signs of infections, I wouldn't worry about anything. Even if everything didn't pass your body would reabsorb it or it would pass with the next period. At a menstrual period the entire uterine lining breaks down and is released.

At least you have never had to undergo that procedure.

I didn't have a D&C either. Everything passed naturally, a couple days of slight cramps, and one day of major contractions & the passing of most of the 'tissue'. As long as you feel fine after that, it should be fine. If you still feel alot of pain after that,other than very little cramping,or feel feverish, you should see the doc. And actually, having D&C's may cause scar tissue, which may actually make it harder to get pregnant in the future.

I had a d&c the third time, the first two came out on their own.
It was painful, and though the people were nice at the hospital, I would have preferred to be at home. I felt better much quicker when they came out without intervention. If I'm in the same situation again, I'll not have a d&c.

My two most recent losses were at 9 and 12 weeks also. I carried both until 15 wks before finding out. Last year I tried to let it happen naturally but I started hemoraging and had to have an emergency D&C. I was scared to death and violently ill. In April I had them do a D&C as soon as I found out. I couldn't bear seeing my baby so tiny and lifeless.
