So I noticed the other day when I was sliding my hand across my lower abdomen that I felt a little "knot". It's right above my hair line and slightly to the right but it doesn't hurt to the touch. I just miscarried the end of January ( no D&C) and I haven't had a period yet. I did ovulate about a week and a half ago ( taking temps ) and I've been feeling pinching pains in my ovaries. But other than that, I feel fine. But I've never noticed the knot before and it's kinda freaking me out :/. I had an ultrasound when I started miscarrying and they told me they didn't see anything (not even a baby) but I think they would have seen the knot if it was there at the time and would have told me. I have no idea what it could be. My mom has a history of ovarian cysts. Has anyone had anything similar to this??? and if so...what was it?
Do not be alarmed because it is most likely a functional, or follicular cyst. They develop when the ovaries form a follicular sac that bursts to release an egg when you ovulate. what happens is the egg never gets released and fluid builds up in the sac. They are sometimes painful and can be palpated (felt) on your abdomen. I would go and check to make sure they are functional cyst and not something more concerning. It should either absorb back in or can burst, causing some pain and discomfort in about 5-8 weeks after they formed.
Sorry that was a lot but I hope I was helpful. They are pretty common after miscarriage because our hormones are still trying to normalize.
