I was told today that I have a blighted ovum miscarriage with only a sac showing 4.5 weeks pregnant when I am supposed to be 6.5 weeks. No chance my dates are wrong since we only had sex one time during my entire menstrual cycle and that was the day that the ovulation predictor kid registered my LH surge.
I am really upset by the way the folks at my doctor office are treating me. They have relegated their ultrasound tech to the role of doctor so she is the one allowed to tell me a definite diagnosis. Even the secretaries act like doctors around there and use their perceived power to prevent me from even talking to a real doctor about what is going on with me. They say "I will ask one of the doctors about your questions and call you back". Then three days go by and no call so I have to call back and they say the doctors have all been too busy to respond to my questions. When I ask for an appointment to see a doctor they tell me I need to see a midwife since they are the only ones with any openings.
Anyway, I am facing my second miscarriage in a row now in less than 5 months and I am starting to want to get more information from a specialist about if I have a problem that can be treated. I have three kids so at one point I could have kids but maybe something has changed in my body and they could help me figure out why this is happening. The secretary told me that I need to have three miscarriages in a row to qualify for any testing to see if there is something wrong.
Has anyone else gotten intervention from a specialist for miscarriage without having to endure the third miscarriage? I am so devastated by this and I would like to get help before I try again. Thanks

I do know from experience that early miscarriages are hard to determine really why they are happening - I had one at 4.5 weeks and then am currently going thru one which the baby stopped having heartbeat at about 7 wks 3 days. AND they can't really say WHY it's happening right now, because it's really so early in pregnancy to do any kind of testing.
I wish I could give you more advice, but I would definitely find a doctor who will at least talk to you, cause that is not right in my opinion.
I had two miscarriages that were a year apart. The first was in January of 09 the 2nd was in February of 10. After the 2nd miscarriage, I begged my dr to do something; run some kind of tests. I knew there was something going on with my body. And while he told me they usually wait until 3 miscarriages, somehow I got thru to him. And that is when I found out I have a blood clotting disorder and he did refer me to a RE not only b/c of the blood clotting disorder, but also because it was so hard for us to get pregnant on our own. I mean in the 12 years we have been together and have been having unprotected sex, we have only been pregnant twice on our own, which both ended in miscarriage.
The secretary and u/s tech should not be the ones giving you any medical advice or information. That is your dr's responsibility. I hope you get the answers you are looking for.
It is not true that you have to have 3 m/c's in a row before testing. About a month ago I had my 2nd m/c and my ob immediately starting sending me for testing. So my advice for you is to to get someone new. Good luck :)
