I know that AF is a nightmare since we lost our baby on 9/3/10...but did anyone else experience a DRAMATIC change in the VICIOUS nature of their cycles? I always used to feel like a had a flu bug...some unpleasant symptoms, cramping, back pain & tender breasts.

Since my M/C, however, AF comes with a VENGEANCE...wreaking havoc on my body!! Heavy, heavy bleeding, debilitating cramps and back pain, pelvic pain, kind of feels like I'm dilating and such. TERRIBLE!!

Is that normal? Has anyone else experienced significant changes in their cycles after their losses? If so, do they STAY this way? Do they improve? Of course, all I want is to be pregnant again, but in the meantime, are they going to be torture every month PHYSICALLY as well as emotionally?

I used to have regular cycles every month but after my miscarriage they have been all over the place and really heavy. Mine had always been painful but the stomach cramping and most of all my back plays up like crazy and it feels like im miscarrying all over again luckily i only have mine for 3 days so it is relatively easy to cope with. Mine aren't back to normal yet but fingers crossed and im sorry that it has to be such a horrible thing to deal with every month.

I'm glad they are shorter, but I wonder why AF has to be so aggressive and painful now?!? So sorry about your little Gabriella Alexis (what a BEAUTIFUL NAME!!). Blessings to you!

I used to have long, irregular cycles. After my miscarriage, my periods have become pretty regular but quite heavy. I've had three ultrasounds to ensure that the heavy bleeding isn't due to fibroids or something else. The ultrasounds made me a bit emotional as I relived seeing my baby's heartbeat as well as NOT seeing his heartbeat. AF's timing has also wreaked emotional havoc by arriving on Christmas Day and my due date. Since the symptoms of PMS are similar to pregnancy symptoms, it can be a monthly mind game.

My period before MC was always extremely regular, and now, not so much. The cramps are also more severe. The cramps I had during MC were beyond the worst pain i've ever felt in my life, and the cramps I have from AF now are much worse than before. Like marksgurl, it almost feels as if I'm miscarrying again. I've been wondering if the cramps are actually that much worse or if the psychological pain of having AF is making them seem even worse.

My period has always been irregular except during fertility treatments. I always knew I wasn't pregnant right away because AF would come EXACTLY 14 days after I gave my self an ovulation-release injection.
AF was only about 3 days and varied, but only with cramps on the first day.

After MC, AF is a ferocious biotch that gives me the WORST cramps of my life much like I felt after my D&C. It was a tad longer, but really really light spotting for a few days after.

I have no idea if this is normal, I have to start my progesterone tomorrow so I can have a cycle I was going to call next month if my AF is crazy again to see if its "normal"

Periods definitely change after a pregnancy, even if the pregnancy sadly didn't reach term. My doctors told me not to worry if even the next four cycles were very different.
It should improve after a few months. It is no fun, but it shouldn't stay that way.

i waited 6 weeks for my AF after my MC and then had 2 26 day cycles. now im on day 33 and still nothing. i hate my body... just when we were ready to start TTC it starts acting this way...

Veronica, I don't quite get it though...it seems to me to be M/C changing our cycles, more than just pregnancy in general? I have had 3 living children and one angel baby...after my other children, my cycles went right back to how they were before. NO change. After this miscarriage...HELL. I'm wondering if my brain (grief, torment over not being pregnant, etc.) is contributing to the torture, but I don't think so. My Dr. didn't really have an answer for this...

I think our bodies are just completely in shock, both physically and emotionally. After I lost my little girl on Aug. 4 the next two periods were 28 days like clockwork but very heavy and lots of clots.(Sorry TMI) Then the last one went 31 days. I was starting to think maybe I was pregnant, but she showed up but only lasted for three days. I think that the emotional combined with the physically stress we have been through definately has to affect it. I think we are all in the same boat and I am so thankful to have all of you to talk to.. Much love...
