I will be getting married in 6 months and before I get married I want to look for a new ob/gyn. My last ob/gyn was not very helpful after my losses and I dont really feel comfortable going back to her. I was just wondering what are some things that I should look for in an ob/gyn. I have had two losses, so I'm not sure if that should play a factor in who I choose. Also, I've been told by some people that having a male doctor is better, while pthers have said female doctors are better. (At least in this area) Is there any truth to this? I'm also not sure what to do about birth control. Right now we use condoms, but my fiance isnt a huge fan of them. Im not sure if certain birth controls effect fertility more then others, and I dont want to use anything that might cause problems. I dont want to get pregnant right away, but I dont want to take anything that will make it harder when we do try. I just want a good doctor I feel comfortable with and Im not sure what charactersitics I should be looking for, or what questions I should ask. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! (:

Finding a doctor you trust and respect is huge! This person will be delivering your baby some day, and caring for both of you along the way. Personally, I have talked to lots of people to get their opinions. Also, I looked for someone with experience with miscarriages. I wanted someone who I felt cared about me, and would sit and answer questions and not feel rushed. You can almost get a vibe from calling the office and asking questions. I also went to different websites, to see what other patients said about the doctors.
Hope that helps. Good luck. Oh, I have heard that there is a connection btwn miscarriage nad the pill. Not sure if it's true. Where do you live? I love my doc's office. Maybe they would give you a referral.

If you're hoping to get pregnant within the first year of getting married, I probably wouldn't recommend the pill (although most people get pregnant within 6 months after stopping the pill, but it's hard to predict). If your partner doesn't like condoms, I'd think about a diaphragm. They can be a pain, but if it's for a short time, it could be worth it., because it won't impact your fertility at all.

Good luck finding a doctor. Best advice is to ask around for recommendations from friends in your area. Make sure you ask people who've had babies, people who have just had routine gyn stuff done, and people who have had miscarriages, because you want a group that's good with all three.
