Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
Hello,
I am a 58 year old female, who also has a history of a migraines for 30 yrs. The migraines strike about every 10 weeks, but there has been no change with my migraines. I am on no medications.
I come to this group to inquire about a symptom that I have experienced on and off throughout the years, which affects my eyes, however the past few weeks the symptoms have been more frequent. I have had negative EEGs in the past, and had a series of blood tests just a few months ago ok, but for low vitamin D.
The symptom is that I am extremely light/glare sensitive, per say, mainly to TV, Computer and phone screens. Also, sometimes just when I move my eyes quickly, read or when driving it happens. The best way I can describe the sensation I get in my eyes, is if you were to suddenly look through eye glasses that were too strong. The sensation is very brief, just lasts a seconds and I have to quickly look away, then I am ok. Lately it happens frequently throughout the day. Also, I sort of jump from with in when it happens, almost like when you are suddenly startled. I have no pain or other symptoms coinciding with the sensitivity. It does appear to happen when I am considerably overtired.
I have been under great good/bad stress. New full time job, my husband had retina surgery and has been off work for a month, and my daughter just had a baby, so I have been helping with my 2 and 4 year old grandsons her other two children and had them stay all night at our house for a week. Then, the drive is 50 miles and forth to my daughters house, so lots of driving, and I am needless to say, exhausted!
Needless to say, I am exhausted!
Some drs have said, possibly anxiety, possibly an odd seizure, but could it be a possible optic type of painless migraine. EEGs normal,
Should I be concerned. I do not get auroras with my migraines, just pain for 8 hours. I do get odd neuro symptoms though that come and go, but since they never turn into anything devastating I do not investigate further. Maybe I just over tired...who knows?
Any input or advice welcome.

However, I don't quite get the "jumping" sensation you are describing with your eyes. Have you described this to your doctor? I would mention it, and see what they say. Or, next time you see your eye doctor, I would bring that up.
If you think it's something more than your headache, get it checked out. However, don't underestimate how bad eyestrain can be with a migraine. I know when I get a sever migraine, I basically have to make my house as dark as a cave. And if I have to look at a computer, I have to put on special migraine glasses. But sometimes my eyes just hurt so bad they just feel like they are going to explode out of my face.

I do get migraines , but one every 10 weeks, this oddity that I get with my eyes does not seem to have any correlation with my migraines.
For with my eyes I get no pain, no other symptoms, just the odd disturbance in my eyes briefly a second or two, that comes on at times when I am looking at a bright TV, or computer or phone screen.
I went to eye dr. last week, she stated a normal eye exam, but she did not dilate my eyes, due to it can cause a migraine. But, she did do the field of view test, which was ok, and normal eye exam. I do need new glasses, but she did not think that was cause of my odd eye problem. Of course that day, it was not happening either, go figure right? All the flashing lights in my eyes there and test, and nothing did not cause one symptom. When it goes away it really goes away.
Then after I saw my family dr. he is very cautious, and stated he wants me to go to a neuro eye specialist. He said it could be optic neuritis. But, I looked up that disorder and I don't have any of those symptoms, which are are, pain when moving eyes, blurred vision, comes on suddenly, usually in one eye. So, I am almost positive that is not what it is...I am frustrated to say the least.
I suppose, going to the specialist won't hurt, maybe he will be able to give me some input. He can' t see me to Sept anyway.
My eyes have not been acting up the past few days, which is a God sent, due to my new involves hours of scheduling patients and entering their medical insurance on the computer for a 12 doctor 6 hygienist dental practice...
