Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
After my 3rd mirgaine in one week and a manic attack, my primary doctor suggested I start taking a preventative for my migraines called Topomax which would possibly help for my bipolar. He told me to mention this to my pyschiatrist.
Now the side effects at first were scary and I was just about to stop it all together but the benefits of the med totally outweigh the negatives now. The worst side effect that has stayed though that the doctors don\'t really tell you about is that you can\'t drink carbonated drinks after you start taking Topamax. They will taste absolutely horrible from now on. Plus side effect ~ weight loss just in 6 months I\'ve lost nearly 40lbs and counting with my target goals being another 10lbs. Woohoo!!!! Im constantly thirsty so youll want to drink water, so that could be the reason why Ive lost a lot of weight but Im not complaining.
That was six months ago and I havent had one migraine since. I actually havent had one headache really *knocking on wood*. I started having migraines when I was in my teens doctors said most likely due to hormone changes and now I dont any have those. Amazing!!!!
GOOD LUCK! GOD BLESS.
tingling in my feet and hands and even my nose. It was really annoying at first but im used to it now. And it doesn\'t happen as often. When I first started taking it I had a big problem with studdering. I started out taking 50mg twice a day and now Im taking 100mg twice a day. I think topomax is worth trying!
