Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
Sumatriptan was the first migraine medicine I tried 13 years ago. I actually took it for a year or more. For me, it works great the get rid of the headache...the best of all of the medicines I've tried. The headache would be gone in 30 minutes, but then I would feel like I was dying for about 1 1/2 hours. By "dying" I mean that I would experience chest pains and a general feeling of feeling horrible. Oddly enough, I put up with this for a long time, but I would make someone stay on the phone with me until the feeling would go away.
The feeling you are describing may be closer to what I feel from several other migraine medicines. It's a feeling of being extremely tired and disoriented. I am taking Naratriptan now. This gives me the least symptoms.
Relpax was the worst for me. Axert and Frova both made me feel a little out of it; however, I have to say that the sleepy feeling from Axert was more of a happy place for me. If I didn't need to actually function during the day, I'd gladly stay home and be sleepy in my Axert happy place.
The less drowsy I feel from the pills seems to be related with a longer time for the pills to work for me, unfortunately. The naratriptan I'm taking now takes 2 hours to kick in, but it's the best balance I have found so far.
It is amazing how it effects people so differently.
You do not seem to find a tablet without side affects.
Look after yourselves, Take care. Love to all. Ann
