Once a month Migraine Injection - AIMOVIG

Wanted to let you know the success story of this remarkable new drug.  It's a once a month injection, that you give yourself.


This has reduced migraine 3 times a week to maybe 3 times a month.  I have been on this drug for 9 months now.  The only side effect is constipation. Migraine no longer defines me. 


There are programs within AIMOVIG that can help with co-pay.  I was approved for the AMGEN Foundation (that's the pharma company that makes AIMOVIG). When I purchased a supplemental health policy, I no longer qualified for the foundation plan, my health insurance now pays for it and my co-pay is $10.00 a month.  You usually get a 3 month supply. It has to be kept refrigerated and has specific instructions on how to self inject.

I'm back on this drug. It worked great for the two months I was on it, but I started getting flu-like symptoms and was very fatigued. I came off of it because I couldn't deal with those symptoms. But then my chronic migraines came back, all day every day. I went on Emgality to see if I did any better and I might as well have taken tic tacs.

So this is my second go around, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh dear ((( YvetteK Hugs ))). A suggestion for you. I don't wait out the 30 days in between each injection. I head off the migraine by taking it on day 28. Also, what strength are you on? I am on only 70 mg, perhaps the 140 if you are on that strength might be too much for you? I am sticking to the 70 mg a month for now. I have been on this now for 10 months. I just deal with the daily fatigue, constipation. I have not had any flu-like symptoms. Let me think a bit on that one. In any event, there is a FaceBook webpage devoted entirely to people taking these medications. They post daily about lots of reactions that are now being reported, so check that out. I'll get back to you to see how you are doing. You are not alone in all this. You are soo brave too !!!

I'm on 140 mg. 70 mg didn't do anything for me. I'm glad it's really helping you. I know these new drugs can really be a game changer. I've had migraines for over 30 years now, daily chronic for 12. I would consider it a win if I just had a few hours in the day without a headache.

Me too !! Mine started in childhood and have continued until now, almost 63 years. Last two years, I was having them 2-3 times a week, so as you know, spent most of my time in bed. It has been a game-changer for me. Now I can make plans and go out and even then, when I start with the aura, the headache and nausea/sensitivities never arrive. The shot hurt, but that is only for 12 seconds.

Hi November. I just looked it up. It came out here in Canada just over a year ago. I see the price is very expensive. Just recently had lower back issues, and seems to be hip misalignment. Since beginning of Oct. had 6 treatments for hip realignment. It has also triggered bad headaches which has fluctuated in length and intensity. Doing daily low impact activities does help and stretching. Seeing pain clinic mid January. Happy holidays. Cheers.
