Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

Need some help - pain relief for migraines

Hi there,


My migraine headaches have been frequent and at times, the pain is severe. I have only ever used OTC pain relievers (Excedrin, Ibuprofen, and acetaminophen). I often will combine these, being mindful that Excedrin also contains NSAIDs and acetaminophin. But often, even the combo does not relieve my pain, and because I have these headaches so frequently, I find myself taking larger doses of these drugs over several days. I have worried I am possibly overdosing or causing damage to my liver. What options (either natural or medicinal) have you all tried for pain relief, and which have had the most success for you? I would love to hear about any of your experiences you may be able to share.

so like me. this where my life went wrong decades ago. i had a fiance, my dream job, nothing cd be better. then came daily migraines. i went thru 45 diff meds, alternative healing - like acupuncture, hypnosis, a TENS Unit, hospital stay with others with same problem nothing helped but time. dont let them load u up on random drugs dude. they didnt help me a smidge. i still dint know the answer. but if u work, u can put in for the 1990 People With Disabilities Act. i got 3 mos of sick days. talk to me by PM if i can help further. i been where ur at. i get it. it aint fun. a hard back of the neck clinch/rub was my only relief. be well. xo

I used to wear a migraine cap. It's left in your freezer and it elastic so you can pull it down over your head and even on your eyes. Where my scalp is very sensitive and so is my hair, I find the ice breaks the pain somewhat, nothing is perfect.

I had my neurologist do a Nerve Block and immediately the painful headache disappeared. I came with a migraine and by the time I walked out, it was all gone. But not for everyone and everyone reacts differently to this method.

I am taking AIMOVIG now, it's a once a month injection. It cut my migraine down to two a month and even then, I no longer experience the dreaded headache.

There is no comparison to a migraine headache, I feel your pain as I have had these since a child.
