Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
yesterday I had an unavoidable trigger. And it triggered a migraine. I took the abortive. It took the edge off. When that wore off 4hours later i thought i might puke. I tried several tricks that usually help and nothing did. I eventually went to bed in full migraine mode. At some point i fell asleep. I woke this morning hoping it would be gone. But it was not. I have zero support at home (to the point its not even worth telling anyone when i have migraine) i want to vomit. I dont want to move. Thinking and decision making is definitely out of the question. Hubby wanted us all to go to the store so we did. And during the drive there i realized it was probably a good thing i was not driving since the cornfields were jumpy in my vision and i couldnt concentrate on anything for more than a few seconds.
I tried the meds again. Since it was a new day and hoped it would help... It helped about as much as a can of pop. One of these days my internal organs are going to give out because of how many pills i have had to ingest.
I hate the drs that my insurance will let me see. And i cant afford to see one out of network. Cant change insurance unless hubby changes jobs..
One dr did give a script for relpax. But it has had a 75% fail rate for me and my insurance changed so i cant get back to that neuro.
I can empathize with where you are. Even with my injectable CGRP every month, I still have chronic daily migraines. I can rarely get out of bed. And when one gets to a level 8 or more, absolutely no medicine will touch it. My insurance only gives me imitrex as an abortive. What a joke. It's like taking a tic-tac. I have to take mega doses of thorazine for the nausea, which makes me so loopy. I have multiple headache hats in the freezer so I can switch them out every 10 minutes. I have to literally freeze my whole head just not to cry.
I wish I had some answer for you, but clearly, I don't even have an answer for myself. But maybe one day you will get a doctor who will listen and give you a script for a better abortive medication. I do wish that for you. All you can do is keep asking at this point.
I have some sort of head pains for 28-29 days a month. Primary care dr shrugged it off and said that i could take tylenol daily.. UGH!
The other neuro doc said he would give a script for a longer lasting nsaid. (Nabumetone which is said to be harder on the stomach than ibuprofen or naproxen). I give up.
