I can so relate to being resistant to migraine meds. I have been through the gamut of meds and none work consistently. one thing does work, though, and that's peppermint essential oil. I put two drops on a wet cold wash cloth and lay it on my forehead, then lay down. The oil penetrates the skin and helps to resize the blood vessels to stop the pain. It takes 15-45 minutes for me, depending on how far gone I am. You can also use the "migrastick" that is sold at some drug stores/health stores (like Whole Foods), but I find the oil compress to be more effective. The migrastick is great for on the go application, though.

I experience migraines with my cycle and I find taking magnesium has helped cut down on the severity. I have to be careful, though, because magnesium can affect the absorption of certain vitamins and I also suffer from anemia. So I have to take my iron supplements and magnesium pills at different times.

The only other med that works for my migraine is Relpax, but I only take that if I feel a severe migraine coming on. There are a lot of side effects with Relpax, but the only one I experienced was a temporary loss of feeling in my foot.

Already tried Replax, nothing, again. No effect, no side effect. But I'll try the magnesium. Didn't know that that interferes with iron supplements, I'll watch out for that, thanks!

Yup, peppermint usually helps me as well but unfortunately I can't use it during the frist couple of hours because the allodynia makes it pure agony.

You case is odd. If pain meds don't work for you, you should absolutely try preventatives. There are so many though, I don't know what would work for you. Types of preventatives given to migraine patients would be: blood pressure medicine, anti-seizure medicine, anti-depressants, muscle relaxers, tranquilizers, just to name a few.

Do you see a family doctor, or do you see a headache specialist? If you don't see a headache specialist, you might want to consider finding one soon.
