Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

I have a history of migraine with auras. I also get ice pick headaches, usually they jump around my head and they feel like a quick, deep, electrical zap-they make me wince. Sometimes they even involuntarily make part of my face move.

Well for 4 days now Ive had this on my head but behind my left ear, the same spot and hitting 7 x EVERY minute 24/7. I went to urgent care, she said likely nerves inflamed and called it neuroligia ocpitic. She said to take advil and if that doesnt help gave me a nerve med. The advil DOES reduce the pains to being not as intense and not as frequent, however, Im still getting them.

Im a little concerned seeing as its in the same spot, and again normally they jump around my head.

Does anyone else get these and if so what is the longest they have lasted?

I had an MRI 3.5 yrs ago for my ocular migraines Im thinking maybe Im due for another.

I have had Ice pick headaches in the past.
Neurologist prescribed Indomethacin 50 mg by mouth. I know others have taken a stronger dose. That did help.
I hope this gives you an idea!

I get them occasionally and NOT with the frequency that you do. They are very painful, so I'm very sorry you have them. If you don't have a doctor, get one. Not just a neurologist, because not all neurologists have extensive training in headaches. What you need is a HEADACHE SPECIALIST. Please find one of those. There are plenty of people in this group who can tell you that it makes a huge difference.

There are treatments for ice pick headaches. I know when I researched all the various types of headaches out there, there was something for that headache type. It may have been Indomethacin.

I'll do a google search tonight or tomorrow. In the mean time....start looking for a doctor!

Thank you! AT LAST it has eased..I got a few stabs today but NOT 7 per minute. Whew. Last time it was this bad was 10 yrs ago and I had them for a month but they were zapping all over my head vs one spot. I don't know whats worse, these or the migraines with auras-they both freak me out! I should get a good neuro to watch me, and perhaps another MRI since I have a good baseline one from a few yrs back. I read that migraines make one more prone to strokes so when these hit they scare me!

I took blood pressure medication and 95% of it went away.

I have had migraines for 12+ years. In March I had an MRI and it was determined I had compression on my C3-4. In fact, I had instability in my vertebrae. Who knew??

But my point Sesser, I think it would be a really good idea to not only get a brain MRI but also a cervical MRI.
