Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.

I am sorry you are going through all this pain!
I had gotten through 19 migraines/month and decided that was it! I had tried many meds my Neuro had suggested. I was still getting many migraines and it was taking over my life (like you) :(
I did start botox. Discuss that with your Neuro this week and see if this is something you want to try.
I also wanted to go "the more natural route". I also began reflexology and cranial sacral therapy. I believe those modalities have made a big difference in my migraines also.
My next step is to investigate acupuncture. Many studies have shown that can decrease the amount of migraines and or severity of migraines you receive.
Good luck and know you are not alone.
Hugs,
Carol
You need to discuss what the detox will be with your meds with your doctor. You can go into withdrawal which isn't something you want to do. For Most drugs you titrate slowly off your meds. And probably not doing all your drugs at one time. Yvette gets an IV steroid to stop her really bad migraines, I think about 5 days in the hospital. You can discuss that with the doctor if it is an option if you get a really bad migraine while coming off your meds.
I've done acupuncture but found the relief was only for a few days. Deep muscle massage has helped me, and getting off gluten, have been the two biggest remedies for my headache. I just did my 4 th round of Botox. My neurologist has ordered bloodwork looking for the vitamins/minerals you don't usual test for looking for deficencies.
Wish luck in what your trying. Keep us informed on how it goes.
You take 3 pills on day 1, 2 pills on day 2, and 1 pill on day 3. By day 3 the migraine is gone. That is something you should ask your doctor about, a steroid taper, and specifically ask for decadron.
Botox is something you should ask about. It didn't work for me, but it doesn't work for everyone. If you've tried everything else, botox is really the next step for you. Just a warning though, it may take up to 3 treatments of botox to see if it is a good treatment option for you.
I do wish you luck with your doctor, and do let us know what your doctor says about all this.
I have used acupuncture with some success. It started with two visits per week and tapered down to one every week eventually. Unfortunately, I could not keep going with my work schedule, so had to stop. It definitely cut down the frequency of the migraines.
I had on from monday to yesterday. It was a strong one. They usually come one week before my period. Some months lighter, so worse.
I don't take any medication. I haven't been able to afford a doctor yet because i am unemployed, and free health care well.. the doc just told me it doesn't have a cure so i have to live with it.
What works for me is taking an expresso coffee with some drops of lemon juice. It is horrible. But an hour later the pain is gone. It normally just makes me vomit afterwards but I prefer that to the pain.
I recommend trying this! It works with some people and with others it doesn't. It is a matter of experimenting!
