Migraine Headaches Support Group
Migraine is a neurological disease, of which the most common symptom is an intense and disabling episodic headache. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and are often accompanied by photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) and nausea.
My point is I don't know that you need to spend $39 or any money to try the temp therapy.
My head is so sensitive when I have a migraine that a bag of peas hurts and forget about an ice pack or ice cubes. It is like daggers going into my head.
Typically what helps best is ice first and then heat.
I can't even put my head on a pillow because it is too hard. I "lay" with only neck support with nothing touching my head. I can't sleep in bed, it is way too flat and hard.
Perhaps you need to have no expectations at all. My doctor doesn't actually examine me. He has me touch my nose with my eyes closed and walk in a straight line, and follow his hand but to be honest, my family doctor does more from a neurological standpoint.
There just isn't a lot you can do for migraines unfortunately.
I can't take the ice, but I soak a hand towel in very cold water, wring it out and drape it around my neck. When it warms up I soak it again. I take Tylenol because I can't take aspirin any more and some strong caffeine, either coffee or Mountain Dew (it's the only time I can stand to drink Mountain Dew) with it. Some times all that justs calms things down but some times it will stop the headache after a few hours.
I couldn't stand heat on my head during a migraine, either, but my old roommate used to wrap a heating pad around her head! Whatever works...
