I've been getting botox shots for about I think it's going on 3 years now. At first I felt like it wasn't doing much. I did stick with it and now within this last year I can go a whole week without a migraine (from 3 to 4 a week) that's awesome for me. They are less severe and I haven't had to use steroids as much to interrupt the ones I would get from med overuse.
Not sure you even want to stick it out after this experience you've had though... understandable!
I am waking up with migraine level 4, which is better than my usual 6-7, but within a couple hours, I'm ratcheting to a 9, with dizziness, tears, and that desire to die, to avoid the pain, again.
It sucks.
I have been struggling... they want me to do the botox again, and I will do so, though at $700 per attempt, not covered by my insurance, it's difficult.
A good friend of mine with a medical background, suspects that my migraines are the result of a cyst on my spine- my previous catastrophic back injuries correlate with that idea, and the migraines could be a side-effect of that. He wants me to demand a full-spinal MRI, from skull to tailbone, to explore that possibility. I'll be talking to my doctor about that, soon.
Pain meds are doing nothing, anymore, but shredding my stomach, so I don't take them... ugh.
I've had migraines now for 37 years, constant for 17 years now because of Addison's and not being Dx'd with celiac disease. I was just like you at my worst point in time. My primary doctor put me on morphine for about 18 months to get some relief. Perhaps you could ask for that until you know more about why your having these headaches.
Good luck.
