also i would like to comment that i seem to get anxiety after my auras which i guess is because i worry about them

My brother has the aura and no mirgaine. I believe they are called silent migraines or optical mirgaines. I myself get the whole pain and migraine package. I don't know the whole explanation you may want to check the internet or see a neuroligist.

I'm glad you found your way to the migraine group, where you belong. An aura is a neurologic event that has nothing to do with your eyes. I would mention the anxiety to your doc...I take a mild sedative at the first sign of an aura and it really helps.

What sedative do you take?

Joanna3 thanks for information. Do you experience anxiety after you get these auras. I seem to have some anxiety after that. I have some xanex i take when needed maybe i should do the same. I live in the pennsylvania and winters are dark and cold i dont respond well to that kind of weather. The sun is low also and sometimes the direct light going into the eyes is a trigger.

I'll bet it will help alot...take it right when the aura starts and try to relax. The auras can be upsetting...I once gave a presentation and couldn't see a thing. I don't think everything goes back to normal as soon as you can see again...there seem to be some kind of migraine feelings that, for me, are close to anxiety...and anxiety would only make it worse. Rest if you can and be good to yourself.

p.s. Changes in barometric pressure can be a trigger.

I have the auras.It is like a saw that moves over my eyes.Very scary when it first started and I didn't know what it was. I now know what it is and deal with. Feel better.

i think the weather has something to do with also joanna and i agree that you don't get back to normal right away. I have had auras playing golf and also coaching basketball and other places of interest.

Hi, I am new to this site. I have had migraines also since I was a child but it seems now that i am older I am getting the auras sometimes without the headache. i was so happy to hear others have this problem. I get the zig zag lines and vision problem which sometimes seem to be brought on by a bright light or glare on my computer at work. It can be scary but it helps to know, I am not alone

yes you are not alone i have had auras without the migraine for years. They also cause some anxiety with me even though i am used to them. Bright lights and stuff do bother me as does some foods like chocolate and red wine. Hopefully you will handle it better my eye doctor tells me to ride it out.

Sometimes I get aura without a headache, but with other migraine symptoms. Many people don't know that you can get a migraine without any headache. You mentioned that you've been seeing your optometrist about it, have you been to a neurologist?

my friend is an eye doctor that is why I talk to him all the time. I do have some dry eyes but he says to just ride them out and thats all you can do. I will try the xanex and see if that helps. I had one tonight and one thing i did notice that a big cold front has moved into the area and it is windy.
