Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.
"Atrophic vaginitis (also known as vaginal atrophy or urogenital atrophy) is an inflammation of the vagina (and the outer urinary tract) due to the thinning and shrinking of the tissues, as well as decreased lubrication. This is all due to a lack of the reproductive hormone estrogen."
According to that definition I definitely have been dealing with this. I have it under control right now by using Replens, which my Dr recommended. I use it two to three times a week. It's a cream you insert in the vagina using a little plunger thing that is provided. It sloughs off dead tissue from the vaginal walls and stimulates your own natural lube for several days. I was skeptical but it actually works. No more sex pain at all and it feels so good to be self lubing again. I hope it will work for you. I consider it one of life's small miracles.
