Hello Everyone,

I didn't get to see Doctor last week, the one wasn't taking new patients . So they made me one this morning and I just got home from seeing her i was in a full blown panic but i made myself get through it! first off my blood pressure was 210/90 . When i woke up this morning I took it myself before I went and it was 157/97 I was nervous about the appointment I haven't seen a Dr. in many many many years! My heart rate was high in the 100's . I gave the Doctor the 5 day blood pressures I had been taking and she said despite my white coat high blood pressure my reading at home was too hight too (highest one been 157/97 rest was like 147/81/83/81! I told her about my heart the first time she just barley listen to it, but after i told her about the oral surgery coming up this thursday she checked my heart again and listen a 1min or so, she said other than it beating fast she did not hear a murmur or irregular heartbeat. She said that I could not have surgery right now due to high blood pressure and high heart rate. she gave me 3 prescriptions one is Bystolic (nebivolol) 10 mgs Blood Pressure meds ANYONE taking this? the other is Paxil 20 mgs anyone taking this? then Gabapentin 100mgs (suppose to help with menaopause) anyone taking this? Then she ran labs on me today from CBC'S to some other blood work they said checks for 12 things. And she checking thyroid . Someone please pray the blood work will be okay i'm such a basket case right now! Everything scares me! Said labs should be back tomorrow sometimes they ran the lab work at the office had a small lab in there , have you all ever heard of that before ? they drawled two tubes...Everyone that can relate to this post and the meds given me please share with me. cause right now I AM JUST TOO SCARED to take any of these meds.. Please reply today if you possible can! I feel my period is trying to start but I SKIPPED Oct totally my last period was Sept. 8th 2010 . I'm 53 and Dr. said I was in menopause but she did not RUN BLOOD work for my hormone levels she only went by my age! Waiting to hear from you all! Carolyn

Glad to see you got in with the doc but sorry to hear the news on all the meds. Are you afraid to take them because you get a reaction or just afraid that they might do something to you? I'd be a little nervous about starting 3 different meds in the same week. If you do have a reaction you won't know which one caused it. Doesn't make sense to me unless you've been on them before and know your ok with them. I think the paxil for you might be a good idea. Help ease your tension a bit and give you a better outlook on things. I'm surprised she didn't suggest lifestyle change before giving you BP meds though. I bet a good 1/2 hr walk twice a day would do you a world of good. Maybe find something that you really like to do and take the time to do it. Cut out some fatty stuff you may be eating and get more veggies & fruits in you.
Also, your pressure would have to be high for more than 5 days to be considered high blood pressure. It would be a shame to be on all those meds if you really don't need to be.

Hopefully others will respond and can tell you about the meds. I don't know what 2 of them are or what they do. (sorry)

Yes afraid of a serious reaction.. the one is for seizures WHICH I don't have but she said they use it for hot flashes But I will not take it because the side affects of that meds is much more serious then a hot flash said it can cause you to commit suicide SO not even gonna start that one. The Paxil I cant take because it has a deadly reaction taking with the blood pressure Bystolic so I will take my blood pressure for several more days before i start the blood pressure CAUSE THIS ONE IS FOR SLOWING HEART RATE also has a beta blocker, WHICH WHEN i'm not panicking it's only like 56 /66 my pluse. I called about the paxil and ask her to switch it to something else just incase i do have to start the blood pressure meds.. Donna do you take blood pressure meds? What all meds if any do you take?

I hate taking new meds too. My bp goes up (as high as yours) when Im anxious, but is pretty normal otherwise. My docter still wants me to take a small does of atenenol because he doesn't want it to be that high even during anxity. He wants me to take 25mgs but I only take half of that (scared) and Im trying to lose weight (which is not easy these days..not sure if its the premenopause). Im hoping with the weight lose and the small dose of bpm that when I go back to see him in a few months my blood pressure wont be sky high (Im always nervous about going to the docter) and I can stay the amount Im taking now. Talk to your docter and ask if you can start out with a smaller dose of your bpm (I think the smallest does is 5mgs) and see if it keeps your bp down during anxity attacks. You do need to get your bp down. Im all for natural ways (diet and excersice) but when it gets that high sometimes you might have to go on meds for a while (until you can lose weight,,,if you need to, eat right, and get your anxity under control).

Does the atenenol have a beta blocker in it? I hate taking a new blood pressure thats only been out for like 2 years The one Dr. wants me to take is Bystolic 10 mgs...

yes its a beta blocker. Ive read both good and bad about atenenol, but my docter told me that if I had problems (side effects) from it, then we'd try something else. I was scared to try it (it took me 3 days before I took it and then I stayed off work the day I took it just in case I had any side effects). I actually felt better (I guess because my bp was lower). My mom and dad both died because of strokes and I think what broke me down to take it was the fear of having a stroke.

No, I'm not on any meds for anything. The only time I was ever on meds was when my pulse and pvc's got annoying ( a little too fast)(120) during one of my pregnancies and then I took inderal. Only problem was, I naturally have low pulse and blood pressure and that made it even lower so I was groggy all the time so I stopped.

I'm sure others can help you on this one about the meds.

Sorry I can't help too much this time. I'd also be afraid to try something that wasn't out for that long. No matter what med you research, your going to find good and bad about it so it's kinda a chance thing, hate to say.

You'll work it out and see what works best for you.

I take atenolol think it's 25 mg, after about a year of taking that my BP went up again. We don't have insurance so my doc looks for $4 scripts I can get from wallyworld. Anyway when it went back up she put me on one water pill a day plus the atenolol. Well that made it go too low, so I started taking 1/2 a water pill a day with the bp meds and that is working great. In fact I am usually a nervous wreck when I go to the doc too and the other day I went and my bp was 118/63!!!

She also put me on paxil 10 mg. I started it last week. It did make my head feel kinda funny the first few days I took it but since then I have been o.k. I didn't want to go on an anti depressent because of the sexual side effects but I didn't have a choice. My stress level with things at home are over the moon and then there's the lovely mood swings too.

I am starting to feel a little more "normal" but have a ways to go. I am also seeing a counselor.

I read a previous post of yours about needing dental work, I also need it really bad but can't afford it. I feel very self consious (spx) and try not to smile showing my teeth. I just can't afford it right now. I really need them all pulled and get dentures they are in bad shape.

Good luck with it all and do start the BP meds right away. Got to get that under control regardless.

P.S. I also take xanax as needed. The first few days with the paxil I needed the xanax but not so much now.

I have had anxiety/panic problems for 30 years and I find you do what works - whatever it is. Other then meds I do the breathing excersices, the snapping of the hair tie around my wrist and also pinching the side of my leg - have to do that while driving sometimes.

I know it's hateful ((((((hugs))))))

Nove 24th because I just got hired full time working from home and I cannot miss any training or I lose my job . it's full time with benefits I have to buy my daughters colostomy supplies and such so REALLY need not to lose this job training runs from Nov 8th through Nov 24. My last period was Sept 8th 2010 I'm wondering if I will have anymore could it be I'm on the way to the 12 month deal, It's Nov 3rd. I feel like I will start but so far not.

Hi Polarbaby, let me tell you I've been taking blood pressure meds since I was 17 yrs old, on and off, now it really looks like there's a thyroid problem there, that happened to me and the blood pressure got wild and they put me on meds for both things and that brought it down very well, but you need to trust your doctor and take the meds as prescribed, they will do the adjustments based on results but they can't see the effect if you don't take them. I also take the seizure medicine for hot flashes and it's working, I was put on prozac for deppresion and I also hesitated at first but I'm glad I follow the doctor's instructions because they really made a difference. About your period, that happens a lot but everybody is different, i noticed that the longer I go withoiut one the worse I feel when it is going to come, anxiety, palpitations and the like are severe, than it comes and the symptoms get a lot more manageable, I just got a period after 80 days from my last one, that's the longest yet, the time before that was 64 days,it's really hard to tell when is going to dissapear all together so we just got to wait and see what happens. When your blood results come in they really are going to know what's happening, in the meanwhile try to accept the meds and take them so you can start to feel better soon, you'll be gald you did. The Dr. ran a lot of blood work but she would not check my hormone levels she said because of my age She knows i'm in menopause even though my periods haven't went 12 months without a period.

So glad you got on full time with benefits!! And yes one tooth is broke off at the gum and have one that when they try to pull it I am sure it will crumble. The other embarrassment is one of my front teeth broke. For some strange reason the other day I counted the teeth I have - nothing better to do? LOL - I don't know how many your suppose to have but I have a total of 9 top teeth and 9 bottom teeth. I am always the last to leave the dinner table cause it takes me longer to eat due to the missing teeth in the back.
I am embarrassed about my front tooth but I am also concerned about the health risk associated with bad teeth. We don't have insurance but even when you do have dental insurance your usually stuck paying a hefty sum because the insurance only covers a small percentage of what they charge.

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper?
