Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.
I too am freaking out because. I am 47 and I am pretty sure I have just started the change. I was 2wks late for period then bleed slow bleed for 16 days now I am bleeding so heavy I am weak! Had blood taken and waiting for doc to call me back with results to see if my levels show pre-menopausal. I am bleeding more than I have in my whole life with really bad cramps. I had polyps removed 5 years ago due to heavy bleeding but this is worse. I hope you are better soon too>
Thank you all for replying.
A friend of mine had a very similar experience as Net, she had Endometrial ablation done and it helped her.
I thought that was where I was headed but the uterine lining after the testing was not indicating that. I had an ultra sound, cervical biopsy (that hurts) had blood work done etc. The biopsy was clean, the ultra sound was clean and the blood work did confirm the fluctuating hormone levels that indicate menopause. There was some thickening of the lining but not much.
I know eons ago when I first started this (37 years ago), I did have very heavy flow and very bad cramps and was never regular until I got on the pill when I was 18 so apparently the end is very much going to be like the beginning. I can not take hormones because I had breast cancer 3 years ago and so not a candidate for HRT.
All I know is there has to be something out there to help with this besides Motrin, Aleve etc.
I do thank you all for replying and everyone having problems of a similar nature I am so sorry, it is really unpleasant.
