Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

I was wondering if anyone else started having problems with their eyes feeling dry or gritty as a symptom of menopause? Seems like ever since I started having peri-menopause I started having problems wearing my contact lenses. I use to be able to sleep in them all the time and wear them for days, now I'm constantly taking them in/out and having to wear my glasses more.

I never had dry eyes until about a year ago. They are awful. Its hard to wear mascera because Im always pulling at my lashes thinking I have something in my eyes. Im contantly using eye drops. I feel like I want to make myself cry just to feel the mositure of the tears. My symptoms seem to come and go after a period of time; I hope this leaves soon. I want my eyes to feel normal again.

Hmm....I've had dry eyes lately. I thought it was all the dust at work, though. But it has gotten worse. Hmm...

Dry eyes are something that I have battled for about a year now. My optometrist blamed it on being over 40 LOL

Eyes are dry, itchy, then watery, and now stay puffy ALL the time.. also, I hardly have any eyelashes left. I'm seeing an endo because of all my other symptoms... but what I found on a thyroid symptom checklist was if your "eyes felt itchy and dry most of the time". Just another lovely symptom.. UGH!

Try adding Omega 3 fatty acids to your diet. (Flaxseed oil is a good source). I'm on a great vitamin regimen from womentowomen.com and I don't have the dry eyes. I think there is a solution for just about everything. Good luck.

Oh geez yes! I thought I had been developing bad allergies. I've always got a Q tip in my pocket these days. My eyeballs got so irritated awhile back, I had to refrain from mascara for TWO WHOLE DAYS. Yeah....talk about fugly! ha. Ive been doing "oil pulling" for a week now and noticed it helps.

I have had dry eyes for years but I've noticed since I sit underneath or near a fan all day, they are alot worse. My lips are chapping too.
