Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.
So..first I went to a gastrointernist to make sure that it wasn't ulcers or diverticulitus or pancreal or colonic anything (Grandad had colon cancer and Mom died of cervical cancer). Since all the tests came back negative, I now know that my digestive ordeals are menopausal and nothing life-threatening. SO...I was taking the smallest dose of HRT (Vivelle Dot patch), but I continued to get bad episodes every week, so I raised the dosage. Now I'm getting them every 2 weeks and I JUST started a higher dose. I also cut down on coffee a little, and I take GasX reg. strength chewable tablets: one at bedtime, one in the morning if I wake up feeling poorly, and stagger the dosage allowance throughout the day. I find that although they may not totally alleviate the bloating and discomfort, at least they ease it up enough so that I can function better. If I find anything else that works, I'll let you know!
