I. Had Bacterial Meningitis back in 1961 when I was 8 months old. It mainly affected my legs (physically), had 28 operations on both legs up until I was 16 years old. I had 2 amputations, one at 8 months old and the other at 8 years old. I have a Below the knee amputation on my left leg. I have suffered.from Depression all my life and I often wonder if it is because of the Meningitis or from all the crap I had to deal with growing up with it. I had Bacterial Meningitis in 1967. The complications I have is high sensitivity to bright lights, loud noise, smells. I also have depression and I have trichotillomania (a hair loss condition). I also had learning difficulty in school,sensory processing disorder. I know the list goes on with the complications from Meningitis and I am thankful that I didn't have most of the ones listed.
johnnyb, I'm sorry you had such a horrible time and effects, I read about hearing loss, brain damage, and many other conditions resulting from Meningitis and its a miracle that we made it.
Gymnast, I think that the depression episodes we all share may have something todo with having the illness. I'm sorry you had to go through so much with your legs, I hope that with all of the new technology that you are able to get around better.

I also had Bacterial Meeningitis in 1974 I was the age of 4 , I been trying to find out for years what causes my symtoms of depression, dyslexia , I have a putuitary tumor they found when I was in my 20s and told me It had been there for many years. I have been a migraine suffer 13+ a month since my teens. I have now recently been diagnosed with a skin disorder that no one seems to know anything about other then i was born with it or its in my genes. I know when I had meningitis they had given me 3 shots of the small pox vacanations. I agree with nabby with felling lucky to be alive.

Hi Kiten, I had a skin condition as well when I was younger but later found out it was due to stress. My household as a child was very stressful and I took it out on my skin. I went to a dermatologist for 12 years to try to clear something that never went away until I moved out of the house at 16 yrs.
Stress, is interesting that way-causes a lot of unexplained problems.

I am happy u survived , my cousin , however , did not , 3 days ago she was 35 , died on her birthday , even though she went to doctors , or whatever they call themselves , she collapsed , brain dead , my little cousin who I used to read bedtime stories to , when she was so little , gone , and children wonder when mom is coming home , get good doctors people , this one dropped the ball

Yes, having meningitis is nothing to take lightly. I'm sorry the doctors didn't catch it on time to save her life.
