Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
I remember that feeling of thinking I was going to starve because there was nothing to eat. Thankfully there is lots....
Look for no salt added options, not the lower sodium. You can get no salt added tomatoes, beans, chips, ketchup... They are in the same section as regular grocery items. You might want to check your store's health food sections too. I generally avoid the frozen dinners, boxed dinners, and any other "instant" dinner.
You have already found the cheese. Fresh mozzarella is also lower in sodium. So, noodles, potatoes, vegetables, rice, grains, etc. all don't have the sodium, so don't add any when you cook them. I think one thing that really changed with me was using fresh produce and vegetables in my cooking instead of canned. It takes just a bit longer, but it tastes great. Find no sodium spices and herb mixes, or make your own to give your food taste. Oils, vinegars, citrus also give lots of flavor. Whisking your own salad dressing for instance, takes only a minute. Read recipes and change them to what you can eat and like to eat.
There are also quite a few no sodium cookbooks out there to get you started. Happy cooking!
I can relate, I am a very picky eater and was also very concerned. I started my low sodium diet by checking the internet for all the foods I like and how much sodium is in them and also noted the serving sizes. I put the numbers on an index card and every time I ate I looked up the items and made a daily list to keep track of my total intake for each day. I spent time at the food store, still do, checking the sodium on the different brands. I noted the brands with the lowest sodium and only purchased them. It was lots of work at first. For example I love bread, like most picky eaters, but a slice of bread can vary greatly in sodium levels. I love pizza but found the best way to enjoy it was to buy a bread machine and make the dough myself. I use very little salt and the crust comes out fine. By doing that and making my sauce with hunts tomato sauce, no salt added, I can enjoy my pizza with cheese, without going way over in my total daily intake. Same with burgers, cheddar or mozzarella cheese rather than American (loaded with sodium), burger roll with 200mg sodium rather than over 300mg, a burger with fresh beef rather than a frozen one (most have lots of sodium) and ketchup with no salt I now have a meal I like with maybe 600mg less sodium. You can check the internet for nutritional info on lots of restaurants and figure out what you can eat. If I know I'm eating out, not too often, I will adjust my other meals that day to balance out. I also make chicken noodle soup with Herbox Granular Sodium Free Chicken Bouillon, some seasonings and angel hair pasta. It's pretty good. After awhile you won't need to check every item and you will be able to calculate your totals. BTW, if you're really a picky eater you'll be happy to know there's a Facebook page "Picky Eaters Association", a closed group you can join, with over 1,600 members. It's a great group and it's wonderful to find out we are not alone. If there's anything else I can help you with please let me know, Best wishes, Nancy
I don't have a problem with potassium. My blood work is always fine. I'm not really sure why. I do eat a lot of potatoes and chips (to get potassium) but hardly ever eat a banana and no other foods rich in potassium (I'm picky). I take a vitamin every day and the soup I described has a lot of it in it (salt substitute). I make sure I have a bowl every week just for that reason. I also have been skipping a dose of dyazide on Saturdays for months now without a problem (it makes my post nasal drip much worse). I'm hoping, at some point, to take one every other day but that scares me. Do you eat foods with lots of potassium in them?
