I had an ENT like that, too. He kept mis-diagnosing my problem. I went a good 5 years before they started to suspect Meniere's. Finally it got to the point where I demanded he refer me to a "second opinion" and he sent me up to the big regional hospital where they actually had doctors who know what to look for.

My neuro-otologist is very much like what you describe, dragonlover. I'm sorry this happened to you. I live in VA, could it be the same doctor?

I saw him for a year in 2004 and have never gone back. So, revisiting everything here before deciding to go back.

I am sorry that you experience that. I too has an ENT who does not listen to me. I notice that most ENT is clueless and does not listen or cares

My ENT isn't neccasaraly awful. I do know I can't hear him well (must be a range i can't hear). I know i was diagnosed in 2019, and All i could hear him say is i want you on a low salt diet and i don't need a hearing aid yet. I thought he said we're going to test you for menieres. When i told him about the ringing was driving me crazy he seemed sympathetic but other times like i am just a waste of time like he knows he can't do anything for me (but maybe its my perception on things) But it turns out i was diagnosed with it. But i didn't find out for certain till 2020 one year later that i actually had it while looking over a workmans comp doctor paperwork after suffering a concussion from work. No one followed up with me or told me anything. Later He told me he wants me to have balance therapy. But it was never given. When i went in to tell him symptoms were worse they sent me for another hearing test. Which he then told me your right ear hasn't lost any hearing...(a bunch of stuff i couldn't hear. During this time i was afraid to tell my drs anything cause i thought i was losing my mind. Some of the things i have experienced were so bizzare (like feeling like i was being pushed when on a ladder and my head tilted back trying to scrub a ceiling with mold) or standing still but my body feeling like i was on a boat. One time it felt like my head was rolling off my shoulders scared me to death! Now my right ear is starting that high pitch then deafness thing but i doesn't last as long as the left. But i don't even want to go back to him. Tho i know i will have to eventually. Its been a rough ride with menieres. But adapting the best i can. The one thing i haven't yet be able to find a solution for is my "super sonic" hearing. Its not super sonic i call it that because certain pitches hurt and bad and its like a sonic wave going through your ears and brain. One time i was at recycling and the glass bottles hurt my ears so bad i had to cover them with my hands with tears in my eyes. The lady helping me just said go dont worry about the paperwork cause she could see it was hurting me so bad. I dont necassaraly want to wear ear plugs cause its not all the time and my hearing is bad as it is. Luckily i was raised in the deaf community and sign language is my actual first language and i can read lips tho (something is weird with my eyes i can't explain it it happens during attacks mostly but yeah like i said some of the symptoms i get are weird and i don't like talking about them cause they're just too weird even for me, lol) but with people wearing masks (which is fine) i can't read their lips if i cant hear them. My right ear is my primary hearer but turning my head at weird angles to hear someone as your typing or doing something else doesn't always work well together.
