Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

salt free diet. I was very upset by the dietary changes but I've found over the years that food tastes good without salt, you just have to retrain your taste buds and it takes awhile. I can't even eat anything too salty now.
I found your "sick at both ends" comment very interesting as I thought I've been suffering from irritable bowel syndrome as well as meniere's and I never related the two directly, even though I sometimes am hit with both or the irritable bowel problems would seem to bring on the vertigo attacks. I need to bring this symptom up to my doctor as I thought I should discuss it with my regular MD, not my Meniere's specialist.
I also hope that by this time they have prescribed for you something better than antivert for vertigo. Valium or Xanax work much much better for me.
I worked initially as a dental office assistant/receptionist/office manager and later did medical transcription from home which was my favorite job. I had to let that job go however because of my diminishing hearing. I started working in veterinary clinics basicaly doing more manual labor...clean up, housekeeping, sterilizing, handling animals, etc. Now I'm starting to have trouble handling that and have to reinvent myself again.
Hopefully at the end of my life I will feel all this change I had to make for my disease made it more interesting, but I do feel that all the choice in life was taken away and I had only to pick the lesser of two evils most of the time.
So, I clean up dog poo and change kitty litter boxes for a living. But I do love animals and don't have a weak stomach after all the nausea I've had in my life.
I'm thinking my next step is getting onto disability as I cannot really do the vet clinic job anymore very well, and hopefully make homemade soap I sell on the internet. But the term that encourages me is to think of it as reinventing myself.
Unfortunately, I've been steadily getting worse, not better. Initially, I had dizziness and occasional bouts of mild vertigo. A week and a half ago, I ended up on the floor of my office for 2.5 hours, vomiting for 1 of those hours. Now, the ringing and pressure in my right ear is constant and I feel the left ear starting.
What experience do others have? Is it bad at the start? Does it "settle down" or get more consistent? Info from others who are newly diagnosed would really help. I work as a corporate trainer and am also a singer so my career rides on being able to perform.
Thanks for sharing!
Who knows.....
