Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
Hi all,
I'm new here, but think this support group will be helpful for me. I've been battling vestibular issues now for over 1 year and was recently diagnosed by a neurotologist as having Meniere's. Like many of you, it took a lot of doctors to finally get a diagnosis. I don't have any hearing loss yet at this time, but do have fluctuating fullness at times in one ear.
Unfortunately due to other medical conditions, I am unable to go low-salt or take a diuretic, so I finally tried the steroid injecton this week with the hope that this was going to be the cure I was looking for.
Sadly, so far, it almost seems to be worse in terms of just overall a continuous dizziness/light-headed feeling, with some mild vertigo episodes. Overall, just feeling not so great.
I'm hoping that maybe someone else on here has experienced this type of initial symptom, and then maybe improved later as time went on...

Not sure if just completely coincidental or perhaps some side effect, but it turns out I had come down with a sinus and throat infection last week after the injection so I had to start antibiotics. I'm feeling a little better overall and at least no more headaches.
I'm not set up on a schedule yet for repeat steroid injections. My Dr. wanted to see first how this one went and then I'm scheduled to return in 3 weeks. So far, I don't think I'd be too willing to get it done again as I'm not seeing a significant change yet but maybe it just needs more time to work.
You are correct, in that my Dr. said I have atypical Menieres due to no hearing loss yet. I get fullness or muffling, but not total loss. We are keeping an eye on the hearing to see if it diminishes. My most recent VNG showed a significant reuction in caloric response in the right ear in 9 months which was a bummer, so I'm not sure if it can just continue to worsen or maybe it will level out at some point.
Unfortunately, though I'm still having dizzy spells. Yesterday was a good day, but then today I woke up pretty dizzy and nauseous this morning, so I'm back on meclizine. I'm not sure what betahistine is, but I'll look that one up. Right now I'm just taking Meclizine as needed and watching my diet. One of my big triggers besides salt is sugar so I have been cutting that out too. (Not easy to do though when others are eating yummy sweets...)
