Did you forget to put a 1 in front of your 5? 500 mg is really small. I limit my intake to 1500 mg or less of NaCl. Your body needs some sodium. You are doing all of your own cooking...right? That would be the only way to limit your intake to 500 mg. (There are about 600 mg of NaCl in 0.25 of a teaspoon. Notice how much salt is in a can of soup or a can of tomato sauce. ) I have been on a restricted salt diet for almost two years and it has made a huge difference. ITo make this happen I rarely eat out and do all of my own cooking. No prepared foods. See my posting. Best of luck.

500 mg per day isn't bad but a little on the low side as our bodies need salt for many functions.
You may be able to increase your intake slightly if you use sea salt or Himalyan salt.
These are not processed like the regular junk salt that all stores sell. This salt is heavily processed and not good for our bodies.
The other salts that I mentioned also have a better and smoother flavor to them.
It's good that you found a trigger that aggravates your MD.
