Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

To your high-pitch intolerance question, I was always like that. I'm pushing age 70, and when I was little we were shopping for a new TV in a department store. I didn't know why at the time, but I had trouble controlling myself and my emotions because I could hear so many high-pitched sounds no one else could seem to hear. I just wasn't old enough to articulate it, no vocabulary existed for that for a 6 year-old. I just felt there was something happening in my head.
Fast forward to working with high-speed duplicating equipment as an adult and placing a service call. When the tech arrived I told him the problem was coming back and he asked me how I knew. I said, "Can't you hear it?" It took him a few seconds but he was finally able to isolate what I clearly heard. He looked at me and said, "You can HEAR THAT?". That was what enabled him to fix the problem. I don't know if this helps you or not JM. Now I hear a sound like that in both ears all the time. Like the hearing test that never ends.
I have an in-person with a new ENT today, to see if there is anything that can be done about hyperacusis, other then wearing ear plugs everywhere in public. Even before Covid I couldn't be in a restaurant or at a gathering because of the noise levels, which would make the tinnitus worse. I had to give up volunteer work I loved because of it. But I did go to the fundraiser this month, and took noise protection ear muffs. The band was still too loud, and the increase in tinnitus has not subsided.
My tinnitus also worsened after my 2nd Covid dose. I had the Pfizer. I had a very severe rheumatic reaction to both doses, the 2nds one worse (in May). It's still not a ventilator though, and is finally subsiding just in time for me to get the booster.
