I was really hoping to see some replies on this subject. I found a web site on Meniere's and it said that when you get to a certain point you are disabled. They even gave information on how to apply for SSD. If you go to: http://www.menieresinfo.com/ in the black box at the top there is a link for "Disability." It's worth checking into. I have heard that SSD tries to get out of giving anyone disability and that most people have to fight for it and file over and over again, it doesn't matter what the disability is. You can go to the Social Security web site and apply online some things you have to mail in and it says that it's a 3-6 month process. Before you apply I would suggest that you talk to your ENT and let them know you are applying because SSD will contact your doctor for more information, it's better if they aren't blind sided. if you are getting dizzy spells then you qualify for a disabilty benefit for mobility.and the lowest rate of care at least.You should go to a disabilty centre,they will help you fill out the forms.i had to fight to get the care rate because my original claim was for severe arthritis,no problem getting help for mobility for meneire's...travels the biggest problem with this and we are isolated enough at a social level,let alone medical appointments,good luck

Most people are denied SSDI the first time around unless it is quite evident that you are disabled. It took me almost 2 yrs treatment for meniere's before my doctor wrote a letter stating that I was disabled. This is no guarantee. My doctor is renound and known well by the judges. He doesn't write letters for disability often. Look under disability (medicare) guidelines for ssdi. I think 2.0 is the acceptable diagnoses for disability. The problem with me,is that I'm not deaf. I have "A-typical Meniere's with Mal de Imbarkment syndrome." I did not hire an atty..and although it took some time, clearly the judge saw personally, that I am disabled. You certainly qualify, so hang in there...and don't give up!

I looked up some information in my Meniere's folder, which is what I should have done prior to ans your question. Look under 607."Medical evidence a basis for decision of "Disabled"..it lists the impairments. Look at 607.1,607.2,607.3. For Special senses and Speech look at 2.00. Part a Appendix 1 subpart P Part 404-listing of impairments. Subsection2.07 Disturbances of the labyrinthine-vetibular function, including meniere's disease. I hope this helps you in some small way.

I was approved for disability on my first application. I think the key is to have your ENT agree so they will report this to Social Security. I was really surprised that I didn't have to appeal. Good Luck to you!

I was told in december that i had m/d had the dr. write a scrip to work that i can no longer do my job ( i'm a nurse) than i went on long term disabildy . once i got long term they went and got someone to fight with ssdi to get disabilty. still wating on that but in the mean time i'm cillecting my long term disabildy good lick and yes it takes a long time but i am concisder disabilty becouse of m/d peggy 64

I was just diagnoised yesterday. and i am half deaf in one ear. cant drive. and have trouble walking due to the vertigo. i have drop out attacks and pass out attacks too. im going to be filing for disability. and im only 18.
