Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
So one of the first things I want to encourage you with is that you are not being a downer by sharing your feelings or by sharing your experience - you are being real, you are being truthful and honest, you are being courageous and strong. Don't let anyone (including yourself) tell you otherwise. What you shared with us was not easy, and I for one am honored to be able to "hear" your story.
All of us on here know how frustrating it gets to not be in control of our bodies and for some of us to feel betrayed by our bodies. For you to be going through this at your age makes it all the more challenging. I do understand that, I am 48 now, but have been dealing with chronic disease for over 20 years, Meniere's being the latest addition to a list issues. So I will tell you that perseverance is an essential element.
I have shared the title of this book with a few others, and I will share it with you as well. I share it because I have found it helpful in my journey. "Beginning Again: Benedictine Wisdom for Living With Illness" by Mary C. Earle She shares from her own experience of chronic disease with chronic pancreatitis.
You mentioned that your baby does not nap well during the day. I would encourage you to find some of your friends, or older ladies (particularly ones whose own grandchildren are far away) who would be willing to come and be with your child for an hour or so while you took a nap. You might be surprised by how many people would be willing to help out - and it is okay to receive help - even if you didn't have Meniere's, we all need a little help from time to time.
You are in my prayers
Most of us at the later stages of MD have had to forfeit our careers as well. It is such a feeling of letdown, not only to others, but oneself as well. Please know, you nor anyone else here, did anything wrong to get this horrible misunderstood disease.
There are medicines out there that will help reduce/relieve your symptoms. Be sure to find a doctor that is willing to listen to you.
I don't mean to offend you if you are not religious, but I feel that God picked this for me, and that it is part of his big plan for me... In that I find comfort.
We are here for you :)
I am glad to hear you say that. Because I feel the same way, and find comfort in that. People ask me don't you pray for healing? Yes, I pray for healing but I also pray for grace, and the ability to be a example to others that life still goes on and to make the best of it. That does not mean I don't have bad days, I just try to make the best of things and say positive. I try to deal with this disease as natural as possible, so I only take the motion sickness pills when I feel it is going to be real bad. I watch my diet very close I don't eat any foods that can cause inflammation.
I have actually tried a ton of meds, several diuretics, steroids, antihistamines, meclizine and phenerghan. The problem is that I'm really dedicated to breast feeding my daughter and therefore can't take most of my meds. :-/ it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, but it's just hard sometimes... My ENT specializes in MD and he said I can get the shots in my ear, because those are local and won't get in the breastmilk, but I'm scared of having those done since several people on here have had trouble with it! I have also cut out most all processed foods and am keeping my sodium intake around 1000 a day. The only meds that are safe are the prednisone and the phenerghan which kind of helps.
Anyway, thanks for listening. It is great to be fully understood :)
