Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

Firstly, I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. I have a question and was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this. On Christmas Eve morning I woke up with a severe cold that my daughter so lovingly decided to share with me. Body aches, coughing, sneezing, stuffy head, but NO DIZZINESS. All of the "meniere's symptoms" were gone (I'm still going under the assumption thats what I have unless the day comes a doctor can find something else causing my problems). Fast forward 5 days and today the cold is pretty much gone. But the dizziness and ringing in my ears are back, (like before, mostly my right ear). Has anyone else had anything like this happen? How could daily symptoms go away during a cold, then resurface when the cold goes away? I would have thought with my immune system fighting off a cold my symptoms would have gotten worse, not better. Any thoughts???

I ususally dont do this but you may want to try a natural remedy that some have success with and that is Ginko Biloba. From what I understand this increases blood flow to the head and has it proponates as a Meniere's treatment among those who do not like to take perscription drugs. I have one strong warning and that would be NOT to take both valium and Ginko Biloba at the same time. Even the medical community warns against this.

Thanks Rich. I've read about Ginko Biloba and everything said what you just said, DO NOT take while taking valium, zanax, etc. Since I won't be taking any valium for a while, I might try it as soon as I'm sure the valium is out of my system. Lord knows with the problems I have, I don't need to add overdose to that list, lol. Thanks again.

Please do us a favor on this site and let us know how you do on the Ginko Biloba, it might take a while for it to work in your system.

Rich - I am similar to you. I take an antihistamine every night (the generic for zyrtec). I tried stopping it a few times, because of the sleepyness, but the dizziness is much worse when I'm not taking it - within 24 hours I feel worse.

It's an easy over the counter to try, if anyone out there hasn't tried it already. And not too expensive now that it's generic (ceterizine).

I take a store label brand of benadryl....Every night before bed. It does seem to help a little.
