Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

I'm convinced corticosteroids were created by the devil, lol. I'm not sure what's worse, fighting the symptoms of Meniere's or fighting the side effects of dexamethasone. Racing heart, sweating, indigestion, blurry vision, nausea. Its AWFUL!!!!. Sorry, just a little rant.

Another great drug that has great side effects. It is very important that patients consider side effects when they need treatment. I hope your stay under its effect is not long term and will be over soon.

Rich, I'm on 4 mg a day for 10 days then .75 mg a day for 20 days. I'm not sure how the lower dose will effect me, but this higher one is a killer. After my injections in February, I couldn't figure out what was making me feel so bad. I think I've got it nailed this time. The bad part about a busy place like the Shea Clinic is I've been waiting all day for a nurse to call me back, and still no response. I've been doing a lot of reading on dex, and it seems like everything I'm feeling can be normal side effects, but I wanted to know if I can lower my dose and at what point of feeling awful should I consider going to the ER to get checked out. Its frustrating.

I would suggest staying on the regiment that the doctor has laid out for you. This is probably one of those medicines you need to reduce yourself off of gradually. The problem with the side effects are that they are unpredictable when it becomes a problem. Signs of hospital need would be breathing problems and rash. The sort of things that indicate a reaction. The other concern would be toxicity of the drug, that would be determined by drug test. As long as you know what to be expecting you probably can manage your course well. If you think it is something really out of the ordinary call your pharmacist, doctors nurse or visit the ER.
