When I asked my ENT a few years ago, he said the cabin pressure you associate with flying is in the middle ear, not the inner ear, so it shouldn't make a difference.
Any thoughts on that?

I flew just last week. I was fine going up, but when we atarted our decent, I could feel the pressure in my ear start to get funky and then I started to feel a little nauseaus. On the way home, I was fine, but I didn't eat anything and took an anti-nausea pill as well as a valium.

I have flown quite a few times in the past year with no problems.

I experienced my first rotary vertigo attack a few years aho after a plane trip. I havn`t flown since. I`m anzious about trying the plane again.

I use Lewis N. Clark Pressure Reducing Ear Plugs (I get them at Amazon) and they help a lot with the pressure. I have had dizzy spells on airplanes in the past. I used to use Ear Planes ear plugs for pressure. Recently I discovered the Lewis and Clark plugs and they work really well. I use the plugs for takeoff until the plane is at flying altitude, then I put them in an hour before we land for long flights. On short flights I keep them in all the time.

I'll add to the random natures of this disease: I flew accross country and when we were descending, my ear released the fullness and I got my hearing back! It stayed that way for 10 months -- and I was free of all symptoms. Unfortunately, 10 months later, my ear became "full" again (lost hearing), tinnitus came back (mine is moderate/mild usually), and I had an attack a few weeks after that.

There seems to be no predicting this thing! Best of luck on your trip.

Fleetlord, I have flown several times this past year. I find it difficult when assending...untill we are leveled things seem to subside. Not a full spin just slight dizziness. What I have learned to do is sit in the first set of seats where there is more leg room and less to stimulate your vision. The stewardess are great if you let them know in advance. They will assist you with anything you need. Also, if you can take something to relax you it will help tremendously. I pray your flight goes well! God Bless

My doctor gives me patches that helps me a lot when I fly. So far, I've flown to TN twice by myself and was ok. I was nervous, but did tell the person at the gate that I have md and asked if I could board early so I wouldn't be caught in the middle of an isle with people pushing and shoving. That helped too. I did have some apprehension, but took 1/2 of a 5mg diazapan (which I take every night) before I left home. (my husband drove me to the airort) I had to change planes, which ended up ok too. My right ear doesn't pop anyway, but I chew gum anyway for the left one.

felt loopy on the initial descent & light headed, then again later in the descent, but overall nothing major.

I have a 7 hour flight tomorrow and am hoping I won't feel too bad. I'm a nervous flier so I usually take valium anyways so maybe that will help. I was appreciated all the different responses to flying. I flying to see family so I hope it is a good thing!!!!
